At the Foot of the Cherry Tree by Alli Parker is the story of Australia’s first Japanese war bride, and the battle she and her Australian husband faced for them to start a life together in Australia. Fighting myriad unsurmountable obstacles, the strength of their love shone through, and they created a beautiful life together.
Based on the true story of her grandparents, it is a wonderful tribute to the author’s family and a testament to the power of true love and the strength of family.
I would love to see a sequel to this story, to see how the young family fared during the post war years.
I highly recommend this beautiful, lyrical, thought-provoking story.
